Abstract

This study aims to describe (1) The form of moral values in the novel Northanger Abbey and (2) the Moral of the main character in facing life's problems in Jane Austen's novel Northanger Abbey. In addition, it also describes (3) The form of delivery of moral values in the novel Northanger Abbey. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Subject This research is the novel Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen. This research is focused on problems related to value analysis morals with a pragmatic approach. Data were analyzed by descriptive technique Qualitative research is a research procedure with the results of the presentation of descriptive data in the form of the author's speech in the novel Northanger Abbey. How to collect data done by reading and note-taking technique. Validity used in This research is interrater validity, and also interrater validity. The results of the study show that (1) The form of moral values has three types, namely the first form of moral values in human relations with His God has a variant in the form of believing and praying to God, which both forms of moral values in human relations with oneself have variants of patience, sincerity and wisdom, While the form of the value of human moral relations with other humans is advice parents to children, advice between friends, love parents to children, love between friends, and responsibility answer the parent to the child. (2) Moral of the main character in dealing with the problems of life contained in the novel Northanger Abbey are contained There are several variants, namely patient, sincere, and wise. (3) The form of conveying moral values has two specifications namely the direct delivery of moral values and the delivery of moral values indirectly. The direct delivery of moral values has two forms, namely through the author and through the characters, while the delivery of values Moral indirectly has the form of delivery in the form of events and conflict. The dominant form of delivery of moral values contained in Northanger Abbey's novel is human with himself with a total of 53 data. Keywords: Moral Value, Pragmatic, Northanger Abbey
