Abstract

This research examines the moral message in the little women movie directed by Greta Gerwig. The purpose of this study is to identify the moral message found in the character of Jo March in the little women movie. Researchers used qualitative descriptive methods to answer research questions and used Nurgiyantoro's theory to process data. At first, the writer examined the structure of the story, namely the plot, which was divided into three, there are beginning stage, middle stage, and ending stage, and the results of the analysis were grouped into moral messages based on Nurgiyantoro's theory which contained three categories, there are the relationship between human beings and them self, the relationship between human beings and others and relationship between human beings and god. From the results of this study, the writer found the moral message contained in the movie through the structure of the story on the character of Jo March, and the most dominant category of moral messages is a relationship between human beings and others. The writer chose a little women movie because this movie has strong family values that make us realize that family is everything, no matter what happens. Through this research, it can be concluded that literary works not only have their own aesthetic value but also have a meaning or message. The moral message that the author wants to convey to literary connoisseurs is the meaning contained in a work that is expressed through the story. This study aims to inform the public about the moral messages contained in literary works, especially in movies. Hopefully, this research can provide new information for readers, especially for students majoring in literature and English. Key: Literary Work, Little Women, Movie, Moral Message.
