Abstract

This paper entitled, “An Analysis of the Speaking English Usage in the Residence Permit of Immigration Status Department (STATUSKIM) at Bandung Immigration Office Class 1”. The objectives of this study are to find out the English usage errors in the Residence Permit of Immigration Status Department (STATUSKIM) at Bandung Immigration Office Class 1 and to find out the staff’s problems in communicating with foreigners. The first problem in this paper is “what are the English usage errors in the Residence Permit of Immigration Status Department (STATUSKIM) at Bandung Immigration Office Class 1?”, and the second problem in this paper is “what are the staff’s problems in communicating with foreigners?” Now, English speaking skill is very important in many activities. Many business fields need employees who can speak English fluently include the immigration office. The research method used in this research is qualitative descriptive approach to give the result from analyzing by descriptively and do several steps to collecting and analyzing the data. The technique for collecting the data are observation and interview to the staff in the Residence Permit of Immigration Status Department (STATUSKIM) at Bandung Immigration Office Class 1. This means after collecting, clarifying, and analyzing and then interpreting the data to get the results. Based on the result of this research, the writer found some of the staff in the Residence Permit of Immigration Status Department (STATUSKIM) who are still not fluent in speaking English and also the staff still makes mistakes in speaking English. Most problems faced by the staff are in terms of pronunciation. In solving the problem, the writer gives suggestion is the staff of the Residence Permit of Immigration Status Department (STATUSKIM) could improve their English speaking skills in the terms of accuracy; vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and effective communication.
