Abstract

This research tells about moral message analysis. The researcher chooses "An Analysis of Moral Messages in Unkrich’s Coco Movie" as the title of her research. This research has purpose to find out the moral message from the movie. As for the problems found in this movie when a little boy named Miguel has a dream of becoming a musician but his family opposes him, he never gives up and goes through various obstacles to make his dream come true. The researcher chooses moral message analysis because movie is a powerful medium for visualizing educational messages, social criticism even though it is only an art product. The researcher thinks that movies with moral messages will make movies better. Moral messages are messages that are conveyed or taken from a story or event. Morals can be left to listeners, readers, or viewers to determine for themselves, or they can be explicitly summarized in full. In other words, morals are lessons or principles that are contained or taught in fairy tales, stories, or events. Morals can also be explained by lessons that teach about correct or wise behavior. The researcher uses Mansyur concept about moral messages to answer these problems. Qualitative method is used to described the research. The researcher found twenty moral messages in the Coco movie and classifies them into three types of moral messages based on Mansyur's (1994) theory, there are nine of moral families, seven of moral personal and four of moral society. This prime moral message has been showed in the end of story when the main character finally follows what his family wants and the family agrees that the main character becomes a musician like his great-great-grandfather.
