Abstract
This research is entitled “An Analysis of Teaching Assessment Used in Assessing Student’s Writing Skill: A Study towards the English Subject of 11th Grade Student at SMA Pasundan 8 Bandung in Academic Year 2019/2020”. The objectives of this research are to find out the writing assessment techniques used by an English teacher in assessing students’ writing skill based on a writing assessment theory stated by Brown (2010), to know the teacher’s reason in choosing the assessment techniques, and to know the students’ responses towards the assessment techniques. This research is conducted because, in some cases, inappropriate assessment techniques are still used by teacher. Qualitative descriptive is used as the research method to answer the research problems. Based on the data gained, the writer finds out that the teacher uses four kinds of writing assessment techniques which are paragraph construction tasks (two assessments), strategic options (four assessment), guided questions and answers (one assessment), and grammatical transformation task (two assessment). The assessment techniques are chosen because they are not complicated for both the teacher and the students. Therefore, the students give positive responses towards the assessment techniques. They stated that the assessment techniques used are suitable with the material given and can improve their writing skill. Key words: Writing Skill, Assessment Technique, Qualitative
