Abstract

This research tells about error analysis within sentence structure. The writer chooses “An Error Analysis of Sentence Structure in E-Mail of Front Office Department (A Study at Grand Mercure Hotel Bandung Setiabudi)” as the title of the research. This research has purpose to find out the common sentence structure errors of the Front Officer at Grand Mercure Bandung Setiabudi. The problem in this paper is “What are the common sentence structure errors of the e-mails written and sent by the Front Office Department at the Grand Mercure Bandung Setiabudi?. The research method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive approach to give the result from analyzing by descriptively and do several steps to collecting and analyzing the data. The techniques for collecting the data are collecting the e-mail, identifying and categorizing the error, analyzing the data, and getting the finding analysis of the data. The writer chooses the error analysis because she feels interested on how staffs in hotel show the good communication. The writer thinks that with good communication will create a better working atmosphere. The writer uses Dulay and Corder concept about error analysis to answer the problem. Based on the result of this research, it can be concluded that the main obstacle is the lack of grammar they understand, especially in the sentence structure such as misinformation, omission, addition, and misordering. In the process of communicating, especially in communicating using foreign languages, it is necessary to strengthen the ability of employees to master grammar. This is due to the importance of grammar in using language as a communication tool. Errors in using grammar will cause errors in capturing the intent to be delivered.
