Abstract

This research aims at improving students' writing ability by using Think-Talk-Write (TTW) Method in the teaching and learning process. The students of Class A Grade VIII at SMPN 10 Tasikmalaya participated in this research. The research consisted of three stages. The data were obtained by interviewing the students of class VIII-A of SMPN 10 Tasikmalaya, holding discussions with the English teacher, and doing class observations and documentation in the teaching and learning process. The instruments for collecting the data were field notes and tests. The data were collected qualitatively. The data from the result of the field notes and interview transcripts were analyzed qualitatively, and the data from the tests of the students’ writing during the research were analyzed by using a writing rubric and inter-rater. During the process of this research, the researcher also fulfilled the criteria of validity and reliability of the research. The results show that there is significant improvement of the students who learn writing by using Think-Talk-Write (TTW) Method. It is proved by the mean score of the writings in the posttest (3.80), which is higher than that in the pre-test (2.36). These achievements prove that the implementation of Think-Talk-Write (TTW) Method can improve the students' writing abilities in a recount text significantly. Keywords: Writing ability, Think-Talk-Write (TTW) Method
