Abstract

This paper entitled Comparative Study in Arabic and English (Syntactic Analysis Case Study of Suurah Al - Zalzalah and its English translation ) presents the comparative study of Arabic and English with the syntactic analysis case study of Suurah Al - Zalzalah and its English translation of the noble Qur’an by Dr. Muhammad Taqi - ud - din Al - Hilaa li and Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan. In analyzing the Arabic structures, the writes uses qowaa’id nahwiyyah or Arabic syntactic theories, while in analyzing English structures, the researcher uses theories related to English syntax. The syntactic analysis of both structures of language is visually described by diagram tree stated by Radford. After analyzing bo th Arabic and English structures, the writer then analyzes the method of translation in this suurah Al – Zalzalah based on the knowing of the similarities and the differences of Arabic and English structures. The translation methods by Newmark is applicabl e in analyzing the translation method used in Suurah Al – Zalzalah . In this study, the researcher uses the descriptive – qualitative method due to the fact that this method is agreeable to the research in which the data is identified and analyzed based on the quality of the data analysis. After analyzing the data of suurah Al – Zalzalah with its English translation consisting of eight verses, six verses have differences and two verses have similarities. By knowing the result of syntactic analysis and the ana lysis of the diction, the chosen appropriate meanings and the flexibility of English translation, the writer states that the translation method used in this suurah Al – Zalzalah is semantic method.
