Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to established and obtained the optimal concentration of ethanol solvent to extract pigment from coconut husk as a natural dye using maceration extraction method, water content, tannin content, yield and value of Rf resulting from using simple linear regression model. The design used in this study to analyze the data from the experiment is a method of simple linear regression with the independent variable (x) concentration of ethanol 90%, 80%, 70%, 60%, 50%, and 40% with the extraction maceration at room temperature for 24 clock. The dependent variable (y) consists of a water content, tannin content, yield and value of Rf extract pigment from coconut husk. Based on the results of study variations in the concentration of ethanol is 90%, 80%, 70%, 60%, 50% and 40% is used as a solvent in the extraction process of maceration for 24 hours at extract pigment from coconut husk shows a correlation between the concentration of ethanol on water content , tannin content, and yield. The test results retardation factor (R f ) of coconut husk extract by thin layer chromatography (TLC) is by calculating the retardation factor (Rf ) shows the color pigments extracted using different concentrations of ethanol, R f values ranged from 0.761 to 0.771. which shows the compound with R f values are is a tannin with a standard value of Rf tannin is 0.737.
