Abstract

This study is entitled The Use of English Song as A Teaching Media in Improving Listening Skill (A Study towads the 8th Grade of 36 Junior High School Academic Year 2015-2016). Language is one of basic human skills. For human being, language is a means to fulfill their needs. The purpose of the study is to find out whether song can be used as a media in learning English especially listening. The use of English song as a media is the best way for improving the students’ listening skill because song is a tone or rhythm which is loved by all people. The present classroom action investigation is basically triggered out by the fact that the students under study still faced problem in listening skill. In this classroom action study, the teaching and learning process is implemented to two cycles where each cycle consisted of one meeting. The total of meeting in two cycles are 5 active days which are pre-test, using song in treatment I, using song in treatment II, post-test, and interview. The data of implementation of classroom action study is obtained through the administration of pre-test, post-test, and interview. In analysing the data, the study uses a descriptive qualitative method. Based on the data analysis of pre-test and post-test, the average of pre-test is 28,20 whereas for the average of post-test is 81,5. It can be seen from the average of post-test is higher than pre-test. The difference between average of post-test with pre-test clearly shows that the use of English song as a media can improve listening skill in the eighth grade students of 36 Junior High School Bandung city. Moreover, the data of interview shows that the use of English song can also improve students’ motivation to learn English especially listening skill. The students are also happier and more actively in teaching and learning process. Keywords: Teaching Listening, songs.
