Abstract

The paper is written to be submitted to the English Department in Pasundan University as a partial fulfillment of the requirements for taking the Sarjana Degree. The paper is entitled An Analysis of “Political Party News” in Pikiran Rakyat Daily Newspaper. This study tries to describe what do news value find in political party news, classification political news per categories and the most categories appear on May. News value is a first step to write a news story. News value is news criteria that used by journalist to write news story. Before the journalists write the news story, they have to know the news values that including in the event happen. The journalist can know how newsworthy from the incident or the event. So the news value is the important thing in the reporting and writing the news story. This study analyzed 75 political party news in headline, political rubric, domestic rubric and west java rubric of Pikiran Rakyat daily newspaper on May 2012. The purpose of this analysis has been recognizing what is category of news value in political party news, classification political party news per category and the most categories appear during May. So the reader can know news values in the political party news which this analysis also show the, kind of news, structure, and category of political party news in Pikiran Rakyat Daily newspaper. This research employs a qualitative method to collect an analyzed the data. By using qualitative method, this research attempts to define, classify, analyze and describe the collected data. After analyzing the data, the writer result is nine news value include in the political party news, eight categories of political party news, twenty one the political party include in political party news, 73 news is straight news and 2 is spot news and all the political party news was written to use inverted pyramid structure. The conclusion of this research is the news value include in political party news on May 2012 is timeliness in 75 news, prominence in 75 news, information in 75 news, proximity in 63 news, impact in 47 news, Unusualness in 2 news, newness in 17 news, conflict in 17 news and surprising in 11 news. Whereas the eight categories of political party news are general election, corruption, governor election, activity of political party, conflict of political party, mayor election, regent election, and policy of political party. General election is the highest categories appear too. And the political party often published and the highest position in political party news is Demokrat Party.
